“……the photos are amazing! They are brilliant and really captured the very happy memories of the day and we definately look forward to looking at them again and again over the coming years!” – Emma and Ben
I knew that Ben and Emma were going to be fantastic to work with from the very moment I first met them well over a year before their wedding! They were planning a fun filled and relaxed day with their wedding at a beautiful whitewashed church on a hill in Abridge near Epping followed by a reception at the magnificent Down Hall near Bishops’ Stortford.
…and fun it certainly was as it was the most laughter filled and easy going day you could possibly imagine and with Emma’s insistence that there wasn’t to be any posing for the camera I was blissfully left to my own devices to capture the story of the day in a completely natural and spontaneous way.
Highlights of the day included Ben literally biting the vicar’s head off with a massive and loud “I do” far to soon without allowing the vicar to finish his sentence (riotous uproar of laughter in church!). One of the craziest and quickest frenzies of confetti I’ve photographed, Ben repeatedly insisting he wasn’t going to cry (he did!), lot’s of Spice Girls references and the most outrageously friendly and enthusiastic lead singer of a band in the history of wedding bands!
It was so hard to choose a representative selection of favourites but here we go! I hope you enjoy them!
If you are planning a wedding and like the look of my photographs then
I would love to hear from you!
Below: Emma’s brother played a large part in the day, he gave her away and was one of the big characters of the wedding! I love the clear affection between the two of them!
Below: Emma’s absolute joy and laughter never stopped all day. She is one of those people who just radiated fun and happiness and she literally never stopped smiling from the beginning to the end!
Below: It took me a few minutes to realise how the bridesmaids were appearing on the TV dressed the same but with different hair! That’s modern tech for you although we did listed to an awful lot of the Spice Girls (who I rather guiltily love!) which seemed a bit retro!
Below: I love how the image below is so ordinary in many ways but is held together and commented upon by the slogan on the wall. The one below is basically a family portrait and I just love the juxtaposition of make up being carefully applied, wedding veil being adjusted and sandwich being stuffed in!
Below: Sometimes the mundane is fun – I love the symmetry and the rather glorious positioning of the statue right in the middle!
Below: Ben outside the very beautiful Abridge church meeting and greeting guests as they arrive.
Below:……and then waiting rather expectantly for Emma to arrive. It just started to rain a little as she got out of the car but I love how the umbrella’s give a little shape to the pictures.
Below: Ben and a bit of a nervous joke with the best man. Below that I love the moment when Emma and Ben first see each other, I see this almost every weekend but with them I have to admit to having a lump in my throat and a small tear in my eye!
Below: Complete joy!
Vicar: “Do you , Ben, take Emma to…
Ben: ” I do!” (Loudly, enthusiastically far too early and to uproar of laughter!)
Below: It was so nice to be able to photograph during the actual signing and not to do a fake posed shot. The gospel choir was singing at full tilt which is why I included the mic in the shot, the light really works well in these pictures and I love the shapes.
Below: Coming out of church was always going to be exhuberant and full of energy for these two. There was a period of wonderful congratulations afterwards and some crazy confetti moments as you can see below.
Below: I just though this was funny. Behind all the hubbub these two spent a crazy amount of time posing for this selfie with each other!
Below: ..and then on to Down Hall and a drinks reception in the main part of the hall which spilled out into the sunshine on the lawn..
Below: Just before going into dinner I spend five minutes just with Emma and Ben walking in the sunshine to get some really natural couple photographs and to take a picture by the pillars at Down Hall. My approach at this time of the day is extremely low key and I just like to photograph the couple “walking and talking” and naturally being together rather than posing anything or playing for the camera…
Below: Emma and Ben arriving in the dining room at Down Hall ready for the wedding breakfast followed by very long, very funny, sometimes embarrassing, frequently moving speeches.
Below: Ben spent a lot of the day insisting that he wasn’t going to cry. He did!
Below: Mingling after dinner and the magnificent main hall at Down Hall – love the chandelier action!
Below: Arriving to shouts and cheers to cut the cake in the evening followed by dancing.
