Pre wedding engagement shoots are a great way to get a bit of confidence before having your photographs taken at your wedding and can also provide great images for guest books, invitations or signing boards at the wedding itself. Parents also love them and I generally sell a number of images to parents from each shoot! After the shoot couples always come away saying that it was fun, they are relieved that it was so easy and any worries they had about having their pictures taken on the wedding day have gone. Pre wedding shoots are also great for me as they allow me to get to know people a little better, I can find out how their wedding plans are going and, most importantly, get a sense of how they are in front of the camera before the big day itself.
I tend to photograph even “staged” pre wedding shoots in a photojournalistic way so that the images have a real sense of the personality and the love between the couple in front of the lens. I tend not to go fro smiliong for the camera so much as letting people interact and have fun together and photographing that. I have added a few examples below from a photoshoot with Richard and Leigh in St Ives this week, the images contain simple ingredients.
