Longstowe Hall is one of my absolute favourite local wedding venues. I love photographing there as it is both visually stunning and also has a lovely almost homely and intimate atmosphere. It is set in beautiful woodland and the approach to the hall is through avenues of trees. The bride and groom are welcomed at the front of the hall which makes an amazing backdrop for images with the wedding car. Guests are greeted inside and then lead through to drinks on the lawn. The inside of the hall has the most amazing light, there are fantastic panelled walls and great opportunities for taking dramatically lit portraits as well as atmospheric meeting and greeting shots.
However, it’s only once you get to the lawns at the back that you realise what really makes Longstowe so special – the views down to the lake, the mature trees and the garden borders are utterly breathtaking! Walking down to the water there are some spectacular views back up to the hall and the water’s edge offers numerous spots for photographing the bride and groom with beautiful directional light under the trees and sweeping views over the lake in the background. Walking back up the lawns gives some great opportunities to include the colours from those fantastic beds as well! There is also a beautiful rose garden to the side offering great opportunities for bride and groom shots on the steps and walking through and around with the hall in the background.
Group shots are also no problem as the large trees provide great directional light as well as there being lots of neutral green backgrounds to choose from. The wedding breakfast and evening meal are served in a large permanent marquee to the side of the garden. This is raised up slightly and has great views out of its large windows down to the lake side below.
Almost everywhere you look at Longstowe there are fantastic photographic possibilities. There are intimate corners for photographing bride and groom portraits, big sweeping views, interesting steps and architectural features as well as an abundance of varied and high quality natural light. It has a welcoming and intimate atmosphere and is the perfect location for hosting an amazing wedding!
