One of the first things I notice when arriving at a venue is the quality and quantity of light. This is really important to me as I try to use natural light only and very rarely will I resort to using flash. With this in mind, the first thing that springs to my mind about photographing Madingley Hall weddings is the excellent available light and particularly the quality of light on the main staircase.
Needless to say the rest of Madingley Hall is beautiful as well with a variety of impressive spaces inside including the large upstairs saloon with it’s fantastic window and the upstairs landing as well as the panelled dining room. There is a real sense of effortless style inside, the hall has a welcoming and friendly atmosphere and it’s unpretentious and practical. Wedding ceremonies can be held in the saloon and guests can then mingle on the landing, in the hall way or outside if the weather is good.
However, it’s outside that a wedding at Madingley Hall really comes into it’s own with the most stunning grounds and views. There are fantastic lawns to the side and sweeping views over fields to the front. There are several water features and steps and terraces and all sorts of backgrounds and textures to photograph against. There are also tree lined walks and to the side a beautiful walled garden. There really is a huge variety of simply stunning outdoor areas and you will be spoiled for choice if you are thinking about having an outdoor drinks reception!
