“I just wanted to say thank you – you did an awesome job capturing the day for us!” – Jody
I’ve photographed several weddings over the last few months at The Thatch Barn Yelling and always enjoyed it’s peaceful setting in the Cambridgeshire countryside as well as the friendliness of the staff and owners.
The Thatch Barn itself is a renovation of a magnificent grade 11 listed building and has been recognised in the English Heritage Awards. It’s not difficult to see why, it has original 400 year old oak beams, is beautifully restored and equipped and is set on Church Farm Yelling surrounded by crops of wheat, beans, wild flowers and daffodils! Even the bar is specially made from replaced timbers from the roof of the building! It’s worth having a look in the corridor near the kitchens as there are some great historical photos of the barn and also some restoration pictures there – it’s the sort of thing that I always find fascinating!
Katie and Jody are currently living in Australia so we first got in touch via email and Skype and only after a few email exchanges did Katie realise that I had photographed her Mum’s wedding a couple of years ago – small world! The day started off with preparation shots at Katie’s Mum’s house before meeting Jody and the boys in the village hall (which also rather handily doubles as a pub!). The ceremony itself was at the local church before a short drive through the countryside to Yelling and The Thatch Barn for the reception.
Katie and Jody always wanted a day full of fun, lacking formality and for their personalities to shine through. I think that the pictures really show that and they were super easy to work with, had an absolute ball on the day and were literally giggling and laughing the whole day through!
What a great day! If you’re planning a fun informal wedding and you want a photographer who can really just go with the flow then GET IN TOUCH – I would love to hear from you!
